61. How does rapid prototyping work?
-Generate and STL file from 3D CAD data.
-Starting with the bottommost layer, begin to solidify the part.
- A laser or ink-jet head solidifies the first cross-section of geometry.
- The solidification process is repeated for subsequent layers.
-Upon build completion, the
prototype is postprocessed (benched).
- Remove unwanted, residual material.
- Sand, grind and polish the part to desired surface finish.
Since the laser has complete access to all geometry on any single layer, extremely complex parts can be built in rapid prototyping without impact on construction time.
