22. Patent Search

If you want to derive benefit from your invention, you need to make a prototype to use to apply for a patent. Before applying for the patent, you must perform a patent search.

A patent search is conducted to find out whether or not your product has already been patented by someone else. A patent search is usually done in the U.S. because the US Patent Office has the largest database of patents in the world. A patent search costs between three hundred and fifteen hundred dollars, depending on who you contact to do the search.
