211. The services of plastic molding
The molding of plastic is done in numerous ways. Some are: Blow molding, compression molding, dip molding, film-injection molding (FIM), and gas-assist molding. Additional kinds of plastic molding are reaction injection molding (RIM), resin transfer molding (RTM), rotational molding, structural foam molding, thermoplastic injection molding, thermoset casting, thermoset injection molding, and thermoforming. Vacuum bag molding, vacuum assist resin transfer molding (VARTM), and vacuum forming services are also available.
Plastic molding services address material capability considerations such as resistance to ultraviolet (UV) light, impact strength, extreme-temperature characteristics, and warpage. Among graded resins the most widely-used resins are the commodity-grade ones, including polypropylene, polyethylene, polystyrene and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). While engineering-grade resins are more difficult to process than other graded resins, they possess traits that render them most desirable for specialized use. Such engineering grade thermoplastics include acetal, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), nylon, noryl and polycarbonate (trade name lexan).
